    2008 Eastman AR910CE-BD-img_1489-jpg

Save for one very slight ding, this guitar from “SellUsYourGuitar” in England could be straight off the NEW shelf.

Three years ago I had the all-acoustic version, which was stunning. Due to life stuff, it had to go. This time I thought I’d go for the CE version. The acoustic version had IN YOUR FACE volume, great for when you need that, but generally not for me. The CE version still has a great ‘live’ acoustic vibe, but is a bit more acceptable acoustically for in-the-room doodling. I also tried it through the Yamaha THR Acoustic, where it sounded pretty good; then through a Phil Jones small bass combo, where it sounded pretty great. I’m not sure who the manufacturer of the floating pickup was.

The unspecified strings it came with were super-high tension, and pretty much sitting on the frets. I prefer more dynamic playing, so go for a higher action with less-tense strings. I put on a set of Philippe Bosset ‘Soft Brass’ strings - my usually go-to for mainly acoustic jazz - and raised the action slightly. It sounds WAY better now. Unfortunately, and unusually, the first string broke after five minutes. I tried instead a 1st string from a George Benson set, 14 gauge, which settled in quickly and sounded magnificent - so good in fact I’m almost tempted to put the whole set on, but that will lead to a battle between flat wound and round wound for mostly acoustic playing. I’ll wait a month before trying them out.

I’m out of practice these days, and struggle to play much at all, but I loved the sound I was hearing, and the guitar felt great in the hands. It might well be just what I need to get things moving again.

Over all, the guitar is of a VERY high quality, plays and sounds great, and makes me want to pick it up. I can’t argue with any of that.

Sorry I’m not up to making a recording these days. Hopefully that will change before long.

Well done Rob, what a handsome instrument.

I do tend to look at the 910CE BD all of the time. A top favorite of the Eastman line for me. The current versions tend to have a few more ornamentation's and have really gone up in price, but these early versions are very favorable to me for all the right reasons.

Here is to your strength and inspiration for continued guitar enjoyment. I hope this provides a lift there.

Thank you, gentle folk. I’ve just been playing the Sarabande from Bach’s 6th Cello Suite on it, at a very sedate pace. Sounds beautiful.

I believe 2008 was the first year of the appearance change. Each of the later instruments came with the Eastman sign underlined. I’m happy you found another 910 Rob. In any event each of us has to have one guitar around. Good luck in your recovery too!

    I have just acquired a new 910CE.

Absolutely fantastic instrument. Build quality is flawless, vibrantly alive to a strum, rich acoustic tone and responsive plugged in.

Bought it blind, ordered on spec and reputation as none around to try. Delivers absolutely!

    Awesome, congratulations.

I am looking for a straight upgrade to my Ibanez AF105F (with the floating pickup) and this model looks like the closest thing. I’m enamoured with that guitar and just want the same thing but “more”. This Eastman looks like it might fit that bill.

I have an 810CE Uptown which is basically an 810 with a floater instead of an inset pickup.

Its a beautiful sounding guitar. Ive fought for every note doing my own adjustments. It was not a factory setup. Someone had refretted it. The fret work was good but the setup was terrible from the nut to everything else. After lots of learning and tinkering every note just sings. Its super sensitive as well.

I would also not hesitate to pick one of these up. Used they are in the low to mid 2k range.
