Weather permitting, I am going to drive a couple of hours away to look at/hopefully purchase a Comins GCS 16-2 - natural finish, for $950. Would appreciate some feedback from the knowledgeable folks here on if that seems a good purchase/deal?

It’s a steal. Go for it!

Well, I made the mad dash up and back in just over 5 hours, beating the incoming winter weather, which could prove VERY problematic over the next 48 or so hours. First, some pics:
It has a loose pot, and the frets need to be re-crowned and leveled, but I can handle that myself. Overall, pretty darn happy with New Guitar Day!

Congrats!
It looks beautiful. I also play a Comins, different model, but also an impressive guitar.

Purty! Enjoy!

Great laminate guitar, and that is an incredible price! Unless the guitar is in terrible condition, you should grab it. I have a nice collection of guitars, and the Comins is the one I play every day. It's very easy to play, and has a great jazz sound. The 2-pickup model is recommended by Bill Comins because it is much more resistant to feedback. I can't say enough about this guitar.

Also… love the Marantz receiver. Boy does that take me back…..

I called Comins with the serial number and actually talked to Bill Comins himself - it is a 2022. Given the age, it was clearly gigged but is still in nice shape. I bought some ebony pot knobs, and it definitely needs a fret level & crown, but that's going to have to wait until after an impending open-heart surgery.
The Marantz is a lot of fun as my second system in my office. Just a 20 watt affair but it's in a small room.
