oops. Didn't see that thread. I thought it would be here. Thanks.

Did anyone here have any guitars consigned with JV? If so, what is the situation?
Insurance can be slow to pay and often does not pay enough. I wonder if like most guitar dealers that have done well, JV had a personal collection that was lost. If so, the world may have lost some archtop treasures forever. Very sad.

Joe just sold my Campellone Deluxe and then mailed me the check the day before the fire - so I lucked out. Both Joe and his wife had some really special vintage Gibson archtops (and probably plenty of other cool stuff, guitar and otherwise). Very sad indeed. Thankfully there was no loss of life or physical injury to either of them but...wow - what a nightmare.

I am just wondering if anyone has heard any recent updates to this sad story. For quite a while now, Archtop.com has just had a notice on their website saying that “operations are temporarily suspended” and they “look forward to resuming operations as soon as possible.”

Looks like Joe V at archtop.com is starting to get things going again after the fire. I just checked his website and saw this:
We at archtop.com wish to take this opportunity to thank the many customers and friends who have sent their best wishes, in the wake of the recent fire at our office. In addition, we are pleased to announce that we will continue to assist our consignment clients with the personalized service that you have come to expect here over the last three decades.
We are now partnering with a trusted vintage retailer here in our local area, with over 800 live listings on Reverb alone. And together with our international mailing list of some 2000 active customers, we will continue to accept consignments from our valued customers. So please feel free to send photos and details to us here at <[email protected]> for any instruments you feel could use a good new home.
We'll be looking forward to hearing from you soon, with our deepest thanks for your good words and continued support: we do appreciate your friendship as always!
With Warmest Wishes, -jv

Good to know. Thanks.
I wonder which retailer.

So pleased to hear this.
Best wishes and Good luck Joe-

Not sure but I'm thinking Mike and Mike's. They seem to have more archtops in stock than they typically do. Emerald City Guitar is the only other 'vintage dealer' of much consequence in the area AFAIK but their current inventory (at least what is shown on the website) doesn't look like it has an unusual influx of archtops. Maybe I'll drop by one, or both of those places and discretely inquire.

I would advise people that you should have an insurance policy that covers your instrument when they are out of the house. If there is a loss like the archtop.com fire, there might not be enough insurance coverage or assets with that dealer to make you whole.

No reply from Joe after multiple inquiries. I guess my $5000 guitar is gone with the fire and without notification.

Small claims court might be the only remedy. Good luck!

Honestly, a simple reply would’ve been enough for me, however disappointing the loss of a guitar.

A retailer can have an impressive bricks and mortar store and still be uninsured/underinsured. And even if proof of insurance is provided, the insurance company can be in poor financial condition and be unable to pay a loss and there is no way of knowing whether any policy other than a policy of your own will actually cover what is yours.

I too had less than honorable dealings with JV. Understandable if he hasn’t got the insurance money yet to pay the consigners but the no communication is unacceptable. This could be a final nail in his coffin if he doesn’t make everything right. You reap what you sow.

That really stinks, truly sorry this happened to you.Having dealt with this cat it doesn't surprise me at all that you haven't heard from him.
