*i've had it over a month, but im not good at recording and it took me awhile to get anything decent sounding

i was introduced to koentopp's through my teacher a few years ago and was immediately blown away. this was his while he waited for his turn on the wait list to come up, so i was very familiar with this guitar. i had previously bought his 1999 brad nickerson virtuoso...the guitar he taught me on prepping for college...and it was the best guitar i'd ever heard until hearing a koentopp. they're different from traditional archtops in a bunch of ways...it's hard to explain...like, it's nothing radical or weird, but it's definitely unique.

my teacher is a big time classical guy...and the guy who originally comissioned this guitar was a canadian jazz guitarist who was also a big time classical guy. im also deep into classical, and the classical nods (side dots only on the 7th, 12th and 19th frets, the wider than usual nut and string spacing) are things im already very much used to. my 17" nickerson is an absolute hoss acoustically...crazy projection...and the 16" koentopp (with controls mounted on the top) doesn't really give up that much in the volume department. and what it adds in richness and clarity in the harmonics/overtones is just remarkable. my recording setup is absolute junk...it does this guitar no service. ive always thought, when listening to koentopp clips on youtube, that they all had a very acoustic quality to them...id say that's the case here as well, even thru something like a tweed super.

there just aren't many of this guy's guitars around...and given his wait list is closed, im not sure id ever have a legit chance at getting one the rest of my life. this guitar and my teacher's new chicagoan are outrageously incredible. to say i got lucky would be an understatement.

recording is through a victoria 35210 loaded with celestion golds, strings are thomastik rounds.

Congratulations. If I was still searching, a Koentopp would be at the top of the list. I believe Bobby Broom has been weaving his magical lines on a Koentopp for a few years now.
