Could someone tell me what Guild Guitar Tim is playing on the Intro video for his book Melodic Jazz Guitar Chord Phrases?
The guitar has a floating pickup attached to the neck.

    Thanks

Looks like a Guild A-350--a less-bling-y Artist Award. Or maybe an A-500. Probably from the 1960s, and probably with a replacement pickup. (I think stock would have been a DeArmond, like the AAs.)

They seem to be rarer than AAs--in decades of looking for Guilds, I've never seen a 350 or 500 in person, though plenty of the pricier AAs.

This guitar is a 1961 Guild A-350 with an old (wonderful sounding ) Johnny Smith added. The guitar originally was acoustic but it was common for a D’armond rhythm chief to be added. It’s a wonderful guitar that I had to search for for many years. I think I’m going to eventually replace the JS pickup with a rhythm chief since the JS is a bit close to the strings and it’s hard to get a good string to string balance.

Same year as my Guild Johnny Smith Award. They are the same guitar for the most part aside from the flashy AA headstock.

I might add that the Guild A-350 has a 17 inch lower bout but a 24 3/4 scale. Making it a bit unusual since often at least with Gibsons, the 17 in bodies usually had 25 1/2 in scales and the 16 in bodies had 24 3/4. From what I have learned the A-350 was the model that the George Barnes Guild model used as a starting point.
