I have a new guitar, 2 humbuckers with 4 conductor wiring, 1 vol, 1 tone with push-pull for coil splitting. I have replaced the neck pu with a Gotoh which does not offer a clear wiring diagram for push-pull, and of course the original pu diagrams runs different wiring colors. Thus I need a diagram for coil splitting with the above components. Is this sufficient information to base a reply on?

I would also like explained the function of wiring from the north and south magnets, are they hot or ground for each magnet? Are any of you wiring knowledgable or can recommend another source? Thanks in advance

Thank you, will give it a look! I have glanced at the site previously but recall that my specific layout was not described, and I dont understand wiring well enough to improvise which is a great disadvantage.

ObsidianWire | Pickup wire color codes | Humbuckers & Single Coils

It's essential that you know the wiring coding that the individual pickups use. Each pickup manufacturer uses there own system and there is no industry standard. You can get into trouble by attempting a colour to colour replacement (you won't kill yourself but it can result in a buzzing humming or out of phase pickup).

This is a nice introduction to some of your options and a great demo.
Know your options, get the wiring right and get to work!

By the way, once you work with two pickups, you can add phase relationships and individual split options between two pickups.

    Have fun.

Here's a pretty cool site. They show/explain in color around 50 specific humbucker models, including N/S, and which wires to send to coil split*. I see that the Gotoh brand is one of the examples.

*(PS - Even though it's almost universally used, I always thought that "coil tap" was a misleading term.)

A better term for this is coil-split.

Yes, that's what I wrote. Over time it's become blurred. However, like many things in language, that happens. If I corrected my father about something like that? He say sarcastically, "If you're correcting me, you must already know what I meant."

They’re not synonymous. A coil tap is a connection to any point in the coil inside the end. You can tap a coil to get any proportion of its length you want. The tone when using 75% of a coil is different from the tone using the full coil. This is usually done on single coil pickups.

A coil split is technically a coil tap at the exact center of a humbucker’s coil assembly. This leaves one of the HB coils unused, so you end up with the equivalent of a single functional coil that lacks humbucking and is half of the full humbucker. The working coil and the unused one are split apart.

There are also pickups available with multiple coil taps for different tones and output levels. There’s also one (EMG 81TW) with a HB and a SC, for maximum versatility if you need that sort of thing. There are even quad rail pickups with 4 coils and a bewildering array of connection options.

Thank you all for the support and input. I am sure with the vids etc above that it will all get sorted.
