Does anyone recognise this guitar that Daan Kleijn is playing? Love the sound - such a good mix between acoustic and electric I guess it also helps there is no drums

It's made by Stephan Schottmueller.

There is a mic on the guitar, you can see it in front of his knee. The guitar doesn't sound like that per se, the engineer mixed it that way. Blending acoustic and electric signals.

Do all Schottmueller guitars come with a shorter scale length or is it an option ? This one looks like it has a shorter scale .... rare thing these days.

various scale are available :

Stephan's guitars are high quality instruments, but he won't ship to the U.S. anymore, you have to travel to Germany to pick it up. I learned this when I try to purchase one of his Jazz Tele's. So I ended up making it myself...

Great recording though! Perhaps all guitars should be recorded this way?

Do you know if he sells to advanced amateur players? Or is it exclusively for professionals? I've compared some of Daans videos on other arch tops (campellone and westville) and this fits my taste best I think. Also the short scale would be great for my small fingers

OP something you should be aware of:
1. You can mic other guitars to get this kind of sound.
2. You won't get this sound out of a schottmueller unless you mic it this way.
Not to mention that a lot of the players with Schotmuellers have a similar style, legato, big jumps, different set of vocabulary. Schottmuellers are cool, but just want to clarify what's coming from the production and the player vs from the ax.
I'm sure there are better examples for each of these than what I have below, but:
Here's a schottmueller sounding just like any DI'ed archtop.
here's someone playing a totally different guitar with lots of legato lines (not exactly the same), and a similar acoustic/electric tone.

I had heard somewhere that artists that he respects take priority over a build or purchase, though not certain that that's exactly true. He may be in enough demand that he can restrict his builds to only players that he admires.

I have a Sadowsky JH that is very representative of that last video. I DO think Bernstein's Zeidler has a unique voice that is hard to duplicate, but not sure that most of the mid to high range instruments out there couldn't be closely approximated by something less exclusive in the hands of a great player. Or at least that's what I tell myself to get back to practicing and away from gear lust.

Very nicely done. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comparison. You make a good point, on the schotmueller video you posted, however scenic with the fireplace in the background, the sound isn't nearly as rich as in the video in the original post.
