This one popped up in within reach and at a reasonable price - having sold my L5C to a fine young player from Budapest/Hungary I had some funds freed up and since I never owned a Gibson archtop with an original P90 pickup this was my chance and I took it. It's a VERY clean, totally original ES-125 C with a DEEP body, made in 1965 and sold through a dealership in Pawtucket, Rhode Island back in the day (sticker on the back of the headstock : Ray Mullin Music Stores). It has the rather narrow but deep neck carve of the mid 60's which I like and boy is this thing a joy to play, absolutely effortless ! The acoustic volume is astounding and played through my BUD6 it gets the classic Jim Hall-esque sound he made so popular with his early recordings where he used his ES-175 (with a singe P90 pickup).... warm, clear and FAT tones all across the fingerboard, no weak spots anywhere, intonation is spot-on, it's light, responsive and just an inspiring instrument with it's own character and soul. I'd put this up against any 50's or 60's ES-175 without hesitation. It's strung with a medium set of Chromes and I also put a 2mm shim underneath the pickup- that helped the electric sound a great deal. I feel lucky !
That's a nice version of the ES 125. I have one of the earliest non-cut with the p90 that has lugs for pole pieces. I've always liked the 125, Ever since I heard a guitar player in a trio in the early '70s playing one, maximizing the intersection of player/instrument/sound in a very small upstairs lounge setting.

Quick follow-up: I ended up grabbing an Eminence EM12N. It’s sounds wonderful so far—I trust that trend will continue as it breaks in.
I have no idea how the neo EM12N compares to a proper EVM12L,...
