Some years back, I had a high dollar Gypsy jazz gig in Big Sur, which is a pretty isolated place. Just for the hell of it, I packed a Stratocaster in the trunk, just in case I had an issue with my Dupont Gypsy guitar. I figured that the Strat could do OK being in the trunk of my car ( or the boot to you UK cats). It turned out that I had forgotten to bring my Krivo pickup for the Dupont, so the Strat saved the day. I don't think anyone at the event even noticed that I was using a Strat to play Gypsy jazz. We guitarists obsess over our gear a bit too much.

That's a good point. If something happens, they can get it fixed fairly readily. I remember watching a rig run down with Mike Stern and he said the reason he uses Boss pedals exclusively is that he can get a replacement anywhere. However, there is a strong strain among guitarists that "boutique is better." That will continue to support the proprietary, non-standardized market.

Perhaps stupidly I only ever take two amps to a gig, never two guitars unless I need my Danelectro 12 string as well.

I have no idea what that means... but I presume the Tele referenced is a Telephone and not a Telecaster.

I leave my ratty 30 year old Epi LP7 in my trunk these days. When I joined a society band conglomerate in 1969, I bought a new Danelectro Convertible to carry in my trunk and took it as a spare for many years. They became a hot item in the '90s, and mine was a mint original owner specimen that I actually never had to use. So I sold it to a collector for ridiculous money and started carrying my Kubicki Express (basically a 22" scale LP with a Duncan Quarter Pounder in it). Phil Kubicki made it for me in 1981, so it's going to the grave with me.

Fortuntely, I've never had a guitar failure that ended a gig. A few wires and screws have come loose, but I carry a tool kit with a soldering iron and fixed them on the spot. I can bypass a bad pot or reroute the pickup directly to the output jack if gremlins bite. This tailpiece could have been a disaster if it popped during one of my gigs this week and fell across the top on its way to the floor. But I'd still have been able to finish up with the LP.

    Murphy lives on the bandstand.

Drums etc. stocks a variety of hard to get Ibanez guitar parts and might be able to special order. I replaced my Ibanez bridge there a few years ago. It’s a long shot but worth a try.Bridges & Tailpieces Archives - Drums Etc.

A million times this I mean, there has to be at least 500 different OD pedals on the market, and that's just one little thing.

There has to be a joke in there somewhere, about what your name would have been, if you'd been born native american (apparently, something to do with the first thing the mother sees after giving birth.)

It's done! The recess in the bass edge is for the 7th string. It feeds from the side because the hole for it is much larger than the others (0.080"). Since I'm across the country from Steve, I probably won't have it until next Thursday or Friday. It will be a long week!

Yeah, Rob lost me on that one, even with a translation: In British slang, "Tele" is Television (could be a telephone too but cell phones didn't exist when Rob was born), and "boot" is the car's trunk. Most I can suppose is that Rob was born on the road....

Looks like the left shoe of a female Big Foots new pair of high-heeled shoes - hopefully it is not, you don't want her hunting for the guy who purloined it.
