Hello. Having just seen Sco at the DC Jazzfest, it reignites my interest in the idea of finding an early 80's as200, and modding it to my liking. I like Gibson "boxcar" frets. Flat on top and somewhat tall. Does anyone know what brand and model these frets are? Also, would standard size humbuckers fit the guitar or would some routing be required?
And finally - Are there any aftermarket tuners that would fit the original tuner footprint with no mods? I thinking this might make a good semi for me, at way under what my first choice ( collings i35LC deluxe) would cost.

You'll find your fav. fretwire at Stew-Mac's website. The orig. pickups in the AS200 are the same size as any standard humbucker so no need for any extra mods there. Re new tuners : once you get this model you take one tuner off, check the size of the hole in the peghead and choose the right model tuner with the correct size of the shaft. No reaming required. Any tuner from Gotoh, Sperzel, Schaller, Kluson will do, as long as the shaft size fits and the screw-tab on the housing points in the right direction. IMHO you'll be much better off getting a NEW Ibanez JSM100 guitar, it's a superb semi in every aspect and MUCH easier to find than a vintage AS200 - people also ask way too much for these ....

Hi there, I own a Korean as120 from the late 90's. Artstar series. So it's fom another era. I am not familiar with the as200 from the eighties. I have equipped my guitar with new Tonerider humbuckers. Removed a little bit of metal from the "ears" to lower them into the body. fit perfectly now. Because the tuning key of my G string broke, I replaced the tuners. There are now Graphtech Rat tuners on it. I have swapped the buttons with those of the old tuners. Nothing to adjust to the guitar. The choice fell on Graphtec because I could change them one on one. Perhaps this story will help you somewhat. With regards.
