We sometimes give advice about buying a Campy and not waiting around even used. That way you can play them now. So I decided to do this little clip of mine. It is an 18 inch Deluxe. Been around since 1998. I recorded it all acoustic and I think it captures the guitar in the sense that it is quite even the highs and lows are well separated but smooth.

I had standard roundwound nickel 12-52. I think they create more finger noise than I like and not quite what I want. Lately I have been using Monel Classics by Pyramid on guitars I play acoustically more than plugged in. They actually have less noise but of course not like flatwounds. Recording direct like this into a snowball mic might actually yield the best sound when using flats. Playing live you need roundwounds but eliminating outside noise for recording requires a different set up.

I enjoyed it! Great to hear you play!

Thanks, was just a short clip and I am hoping maybe some others might take up to post a clip on this tread. It is not so much about the playing as such but the sound and the breath of the guitar. I used a pick on this but normally I would be more hybrid type playing and using my fingers and no pick. One thing with using the fingers alone it forces me to think differently, and I don't need to worry about playing a bunch of " faster" single line stuff that the pick would allow. Doing a clip with fingers only would be an interesting comparison. I did this way for simplicity.

Obviously, a Johnny Smith Gibson does not have the power this guitar has but, it retains the intricate inner voices sound. I keep seeing the Campellone Special for sale on Reverb and if I did not have this one, I would be tempted. I find the market clearly says the Gibson L5's retain the higher price used but unless you happen on a very good Gibson, the Camp will perform always.
If you got a Campy and can record it put on the thread, be interesting to hear.

Nice playing. Is it parallel braced?

This is a recording of my Campellones - a 2011 Special (sunburst) that I purchased new and my recently acquired 2007 Special (Antique Natural). The 2011 is the same size and scale as a Gibson Johnny Smith and the 2007 is basically the same specs as a Gibson L5, except it’s about a 1/4” shallower. The guitars were both played acoustically and recorded directly into my Mac with a Blue Yeti mic.
