    For home use, I found that the difference in sound between Sovtek and NOS Mullard preamp tubes to be astonishing. Live probably not.

    My amp technician recommends old European valves for my Hiwatt. I cannot see myself hunting for ancient Mullards (that, miraculously, have not been used) while hoping that I am not being conned by the vendors. At the same time, I would enjoy having old British valves in my amp.

    Luckily, I bought a box of unused Military grade Mullard preamp valves in the 1980's. Stamped for UK Military use.

    Thread Drift/Shameless Name-Dropping: I was in a band with Andy Burton for ~5 or 7 years back in the 2000s. He's a wonderful cohort to have in your corner: all business, very matter-of-fact, professional to the nth degree...but fun, funny, and super-musical to boot.
