It's just some loser, the internet is overflowing with them. Sorry they picked your clip from all the others.

That was a very pleasant recording.

It's kind of harsh don't you think to call a guy a loser because he doesn't like the look of the guitar. We all have subjective views on what we fine attractive. If you are going to post online, you can't expect all comments to be unicorns and rainbows.Personally,i think that Ribbecke is beautiful and would love to have one.

Yep, a "dumb looking guitar" is a "dumb" sounding statement. If you don't like the look, fine. Troll.

Great playing as always, Mark - thanks for posting!

Not to make this about me.... but, I think he's a loser because he took the time to post something negative towards someone he doesn't know. "Decent playing" is also a put down, and a fitting one to come from someone with no clips of their own.

Beautiful playing! And that guitar sounds amazing. It's always funny when a random person with no videos makes a comment criticizing a video..

    Lovely, meditative playing, as always.

I've remarked about the beautiful sound of the Ribbecke in the past, without having considered the whys and wherefores of its design and construction. Anyway, I spent 10 minutes reading up on the logic behind the soundport placement and how it's, for example, arched on the bass side but flat on the treble side to enhance bass response. Cool.

Anyway, random YouTube comments would be the least of my concerns vis-à-vis one's artistic endeavours, but that's just me.

Not just the guitar (which is beautiful) nor the playing (which is wonderful). But also the attention and care that Mark puts in to his video production. Everything is always well lit. The sound is always well done. There's attention to the background.

How many videos do you see on YouTube where the guy is sitting in a messy room and there's like, you know, old underwear on the back of the couch over his shoulder or something?

Mark's videos represent himself and his music in a professional manner, which is something I appreciate over and above enjoying the music. He's got respect for himself, for the music and for his audience.

The Ribbecke isn't pointy enough for someone named "metalovai"

Wouldn't sweat the comment. It's a comment, and that is a great thing on youtube. A comment section full of people arguing about what it is is what you want=plays. I think the guitar very well suits your mellow mood.

Love it, Mark, great tone, playing, wonderful and interesting beast you've got there - the whole piece just works beautifully and I'm delighted to listen to it!

Being vulnerable to insensitive comments is just the small price we pay to try to create something of beauty and then share it. Keep reaching out, the world needs more great and unique musical voices.

Keep up the good work, you're producing some of the best sounding Archtop videos on Youtube. Ignore any negative trolling, don't engage with them.

My two young nephews, both aged around 11 years and budding Rock guitarists, like my guitar playing when I play a headless solid body guitar, but don't like my playing when it's a Jazz Archtop. To them, if it's not a Rock guitar it's no good, they're too young to hear past their preconceptions.

There are a lot of young children posting negative comments on YouTube.

As always, playing and recording of the highest caliber. I guess many people have no idea what a soundport is..

Very often this rudeness is usual in high school kids learning how to navigate online gaming and the internet. Eventually most of them grow out of it.

The world including all of us, are capable of wonderful and horrible opinions. Just reading about comment from famous composers harsh criticism of fellow composers.

I heard it said it’s not bad or negative comments that are as important, as if they quit talking about you,Lol!

    .

Yes, a famous Tom Wolf quotation is something like “The only thing worse than people talking about you is people not talking about you”. In this case it was calling the Ribbecke instrument “the dumbest looking guitar”. THAT, I just can’t abide

Mark you're playing for me is mostly like painting. You paint a sense of space and time, and it makes a lot of sense. Went back to read the comment and they did like your playing but my guess is a real traditionalist made this comment. That said I have seen guitars that I would not want to own just on looks themselves but nothing to do with your playing or even this guitar.

My comment on the guitar is I met Tom R. many years ago at a guitar show in Texas. I believe we were at the hotel staying in the same place and he was very nice. No ego and let me tell you he builds fantastic guitars. Yours being one of finest and to me the perfect pick (pun intended) for the type of solo stuff you do. A huge Stromberg or Super 400 would not really capture the elegance of the sound in the same way. Mighty nice playing!

My suggestion is to keep playing exactly like you do and don't change the critics are a bound to say the least. I once played a beautiful Johnny Smith Gibson from about maybe early 70's. Cherry Sunburst done in terrific fashion a real looker. I will never forget picking it up to play and it was only a looker. The guitar was heavy and dead as a get nothing coming out of the carved top. Don't listen to music with your eyes.

Well so much has been said about the strength, warmth and meditative quality of your playing and I can only concur. I enjoy hearing your playing immensely. As for the guitar barb I recall a Mr Presley standing up for his blue suede shoes. I think your´s is a beautiful instrument, musically and aesthetically.

    Mark..consider the source.

the YT universe is just that..without looking too far in it you will find that Jimi Hendrix was not that good and Einstein was not all that smart.

When you play a random (uncommon) guitar, expect to hear random comments about it.

But they must be genuinely random, e.g., "why doesn't your porthole have a cover, aren't you afraid the seawater will get in?"

P.S. - I see the YT comment was, "dumbest looking guitar I've seen in a while." Obviously that listener has seen very few guitars! Compared to some of the really odd looking guitars out there, yours is conservative.
