By chance I dropped in to a small UK museum and found they had a special exhibition on concerning the actor Jim Dale. I mostly knew him as a Carry On actor, but apparently he had some musical skills as a guitar of his was in the museum. The pickup looked unusual and I wondered if anyone recognised it.
I'm guessing that this is it being played (solo at approx 1 minute in):

There was another post here but it appears to have been deleted...
Anyway, I found a very similar looking (different orientation?) pickup on Ebay:

Thanks. It does indeed look like a variant of that.
The one I found on Ebay looks similar, but doesn't appear to be exactly the same.

It looks like the Type 1505 Gr near the bottom of this page: Hofner Guitar Pickup Accessories - Fact File
That slot on the top on the bass side is a volume control!
(I think the site is by Mr. Hofnerologist Hammertone on here)

Cheap-o Fasan archtop with a pickup made by FUMA. They supplied various West German makers with OEM pickups. They sold aftermarket pickups to retailers as well, under the Ideal brand. Easy to spot due to the distinctive slots in the screwheads. Höfner used their pickups extensively until @1958 when they switched to Pix pickups, and then to Schaller pickups later in the 1960s. The pickup shown in post #6 has either had its six screws replaced or is not a FUMA pickup.
