This question is for those who have installed a thumbwheel volume control for a DeArmond FHC Guitar Mike:
What value pot did you use? What taper? Where did you get yours?
I recently acquired a '36 L-7 and mounted a FHC and 500K thumbwheel pot. The pickup sounds fantastic but the volume control doesn't work very well. All the action is concentrated in the first 1/4 turn of the pot.
So, I'm looking for specific suggestions because there are a lot of pots to choose from! Thanks

I've used Guitar Parts Factory for many years. I think they have both a linear and audio thumbwheel pot. Buy one of each and see which you prefer. For $5 each it's worth having both available, and maybe even a 250Kohm version.

IIRC, Dearmonds use a 1 meg pot. I suggest trying a few of different values and seeing which one gets you the sound you like.

Whatever the original DeArmond pickups used, for me 500Kohm pots give a great sound.

It sounds like you used a linear taper pot. The human ear does not respond linearly to volume. Get a pot with an “audio” or “logarithmic” taper (two names for the same thing).
