What are the smoothest of the non-flatwound strings? I play mostly jazz and jazz blues and I use TI flatwound Bensons and TI flatwound Swings on my Heritage jazz archtop. My other 2 guitars, are a Gibson ES 345 and a Fender CS '64 Reliced Tele. I want to eliminate or minimize string screech with the latter 2 guitars. So, what are some good sounding strings with minimal string screech?

D’Addario half rounds might be worth a try. Otherwise, coated strings like Elixirs will cut down on noise.

Stringjoy also makes a coated string. I've never tried them but I do like their Broadway strings.

    I like GHS groundwounds.

Improved technique, spider drills done slowly as cleanly as possible.

Or just get some flats, Jimmy Vaughan uses flats on his strat. If it works for him…

Newtone Archtop strings squeak less than most strings i have tried.

I did not know Jimmy Vaughan used flats in his Strats. He has a great sound, and you sent down a little JV rabbit hole there.

With round wound strings, to decrease 'Squeaky string noise', wipe the strings with 'Fast Fret', or a DIY mixture of baby oil/smallest amount of Vaseline. But, be prepared for a duller tone.

If you already play Thomastik flats, it would seem logical to try their Bebops, bearing in mind that the 12 gauge and below sets contain a plain 3rd. I found them to be only slightly quieter than other roundwounds, however. YMMV. Newtone Archtops (always with a wound 3rd string) I believe have a similar construction to the Bebops and get generally good reviews.

Halfrounds from D'Addario or GHS (Brite Flats, IIRC) are maybe worth a look, though a lot of folk don't get on with their "sticky" feel.

After much experimentation, I personally ended up with Elixir Nanoweb coated strings, which have low (i.e. "tolerable") string noise and a good, albeit rather bright tone. Apart from their Polywebs, I haven't tried any other type of coated strings.

    I hope that helps.

The GHS rollerwound are pretty close to noiseless with winding. The Daddario 1/2 wounds are also good. I had a bad reaction to them at first but now like them. They have some noise but ill quite down with playing in only a few hours. I will also say the Thomastik Bebops round woound are not noisy to my ears compared to most strings.

I've tried D'Addario Half-Rounds and the GHS Rollerwounds, and I couldn't remove either of them of my guitar fast enough.

As far as round wounds go I like the John Pearse 'archtop' strings and the Elixir 12-52 nanowebs.
With that said most of my electric guitars, including solid body instruments, have Thomastik flats.

Maybe you shouldn't have taken the Half-rounds off so fast. I find that they fell really weird for the first hour or two and then they settle in well.

A bit of an acquired taste though for sure.

LaBella also makes rollerwounds. I've tried both these and GHS and can't tell the difference. I use GHS (10-46) on my semi and solidbodies. Nice strings -- they have the sound of roundwounds with a feel (and lack of squeakiness) close to flats.

Just use flatwound strings? I put them on all electrics. I can’t stand finger noise.

Pyramid Fusion Flats. If they are available in your country.

What's the difference between Elixir Nanoweb and Elixir Polyweb strings?

The Nanowebs have a considerably thinner coating. They feel more 'normal'.
I like the Nanowebs, hate the Polywebs.
The coating on the Polywebs starts to fray (peel off) after a while!

FWIW, I read here some time ago that to improve the feel of halfrounds you should run them through fine (1500 grade/grit?) sandpaper or steel wool a few times. I finally got round to trying this and with positive results, as I was looking for a less bright alternative to the Elixirs.

I tried their half rounds, I couldnt get on with them.
They are sold as "the best of both worlds" but I found them to fall way short of "best" of anything.
