I purchased one of these and it should arrive this coming week.

This is the new Thin Line model.

I have often heard others play the standard body depth Kingpins with P90s but I did not want a full depth 16" archtop. Weight close to 5 lbs is a bonus.

I do not have details on the T.O.M. bridge. Not sure what the saddle depth is. With a 16" fret board radius, I have not yet determined what they furnish for the bridge.

Specs I have found bridge as:

Did you receive the guitar? Curious about your opinion on sound/playability. Thanks

I opened up the shipping box early yesterday morning.

I am actually quite pleased with the guitar. It's nice to receive an archtop with no hardware rattles.

The guitar has a nice smooth maple neck. It's a nice alternative to nitrocellulose finished necks.

The guitar is only 5 lbs. It's certainly loud enough for home practice. The only other laminate archtop I have here is an Eastman AR371CE. I think the acoustic response on the 5th Ave TL is more even in comparison. The AR371CE in comparison always seemed very resonant at lower frequencies and a little thin sounding at higher frequencies.

It arrived with bridge in place with 11 gauge round wound strings. I am used to playing flatwounds and round wounds just sound different to me. Setup seemed reasonable and I played it through most of the day without making any changes to action or intonation.

Frets are nice. I did check with a Fret Rocker.

It's difficult for me to comment on the plugged in sound. I did practice with most of the day through my Henriksen Bud 6 with flat EQ. I don't have any other guitars here with P90 style pickups to compare to. I usually play guitars with a Benedetto A6 pickup. I think it's difficult to comment on pickups when they have only been used at home practice volume levels. I will take the guitar out this weekend. I will also check it out here using my DV Mark Little Jazz amp.

It might be good to refer to some of the older threads here that pertain to the larger depth 5th Ave guitars with P90s. I suspect they are the same pickups.

In summary I am glad I purchased this guitar and expect to enjoy playing it. When you look at the cost of other laminate guitars including ones imported from Asia, it's nice a guitar manufactured in Quebec at current prices.

I have no information one way or the other, but I have a hard time imagining they're not the same pickups. Godin's modus operandi is to use the same components on multiple products to full extent possible (especially with the 5th Avenue line), and I can't see them using two different P90s within the same product line. Having had both Godin and Gibson P90-equipped guitars, I can say that Godin makes a good sounding P90.

Danielle do you still have the Godin? I would be curious to hear about your feelings after a few months. I'm quite interested in this guitar. Wish it only had one pickup, but not that of a problem.. the guitar is very light from what you said (5lbs).
    Thanks !

I have used the Godin primarily since purchasing it until recent weeks. Still like the guitar but it was time to rotate and give some other guitars I have here some love. On that guitar I have the TI JS111 string set. Other archtops here have the JS112 string set. The guitar seems to have longer sustain and less of an acoustic like attack characteristic. Not sure if it's the guitar or the string set that makes the difference.

It's my understand that those Godin P90s are actually quite thin and are just screwed onto the guitar top. They don't have to route out a huge hole in the top for each pickup.

Although I have never been a big fan of the two pickup look, I think two P90s make sense from a hum canceling perspective. I have generally used the guitar with both pickups. I did find I like using that guitar with my DV Mark Little Jazz amp. With my other archtops I find I prefer the Henriksen Bud 6.

It was nice having that Godin with it satin like modern finish here to use during the hot summer months. No neck stickiness or finish friction that I often experience with a nitro cellulose neck finish.

Fret profile on those seem to be a little different on these. A little thinner, perhaps lower, and a subtle crown. Very different than the Dunlop 6130 fret shape most of my other other archtops have.

Wow thanks a lot. Very detailed description !
I'm looking for a jazz guitar, but maybe need something a bit more acoustic oriented. I'd like to use it plugged and unplugged. Don't need a very loud voicing, but still convincing enough to hear my playing with dynamics.
I was also eyeing the Guild Slim Jim T50 (recent Newark Street), and wonder if that one is more in the ballpark of my needs.. maybe a little bigger, only one pickup. Better acoustic voice ?

I can't comment on that Guild model. I have not seen one. I do find the Godin 5th Avenue thinline P90 to be loud enough for quiet practice at home. With the strings I am using it has plenty of sustain and consistent note to note attack sustain characteristics.

Just gave that guitar some love with a light cleaning and polish. I was a little surprised it took me more than 6 months before realizing the P90s still had the plastic adhesive shipping protection on them. They look much nicer after doing the peel.

Greetings! Do you happen to have any recordings of you playing it? I have only found non-jazz 5th Ave TL samples.

I do not have any recordings. I will keep your request in mind.

Still playing it regularly. With it's light weight, light but durable finish, size, I find it to be an easy guitar to enjoy. A little while ago I noted that the neck joins the body at the 15th fret, rather than the usual 14th. I am finding it very easy to get used to pair of P90s.
