What are some good solid bodies with P90s?

    Thinking about maybe getting:

    -Revstar
    -Guild Aristocrat
    -Gibson LP Special

Probably everyone has their own likes on this one..

I like Fender P90's pretty well.

If I were splurging, thinking a Gibson Les Paul with a P90 is one of the better guitars around. Though actually, I would really like to try an Eastman Les Paul with a P90.

One, or two pickup? Single, or double cut? Price limit?

I only use the neck pickup, price preferably under $1,000

I have a Gibson 50s tribute SG that's awesome. Comfortably thick neck and two P90s. Idk what they are now but mine was under $700.

If you can find one, the Epiphone “Inspired by 1954” Les Paul Custom is a really nice, yet not expensive choice.

Not having much cash to spare I bought the Epiphone LP Special, despite the colour not being entirely to my liking.
It certainly provides the sound I was after.

I have a 2013 Les Paul ‘50s Tribute gold top . I got it last summer for $900 (other finishes tend to be cheaper). I’m very happy with it. Plays and sounds great for jazz and blues.

That’s what I was thinking. The full hog body should be darker and more resonant than a maple cap.

That would be considered "budget", and I'd look at Sires, I think their P90s sound great:

Along those lines an SG Classic which also has a chunky neck. I have a 2007. Paid $650 used some years ago.

Or, of the beaten path a USA made Hamer P90 Special. I have one with Wolfetones (Mean and Meaner.. a vintage vibe). I also have a Hamer P90 Korina Jr also with a Wolfetome pickup. Both came with hot Duncans not to everyone's taste. In general, USA made Hamers fly under the radar for what they are.

I'm not sure that's the difference. At least on the neck pickup, I think it's that the Special has a bit of quack/nasal resonant peak (almost stratty at times), and the maple cap is more even sounding. The LP has also more sustain, which usually means less body resonance, but I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

I friend of mine has a couple of Specials and Juniors, and we did a bit of a "shootout" once with my LP '50s Tribute (maple cap, P90s). On clean sounds (especially neck pickup), the difference I describe is pretty obvious, but with OD and on the other pickup settings there's not a whole lof of difference, except the slight hollowness of the Special cuts through better. I'd say if you're looking to play jazz with it, the maple cap is a better choice, and for other music it's more of a toss-up/preference thing.
