Replacing old tuners

I just aquired a '42 Epi Ritz. Im absolutely smitten except for the tuners. Im pretty sure Im not the only one to run into this! in a perfect world Id put nice full size locking tuners but that would mean enlarging the holes. Im a little hesitant to modify a rare old guitar and wondering if there is an alternative? Ill be doing an NGD as soon as I get it cleaned up.

Please show a pic of your tuners.
If they are Grovers, there are many modern replacements that will fit with no modifications. Gotoh, Grover and Waverly make good ones.
You shouldn’t need locking tuners on a guitar like that.

I would get a set if these they keep everything the same and are a considerable upgrade.
