Hello, people on the internet !

I know this is such a boring subject thats been so much debated,,,,

But Im looking for options to compliment my Polytone, which is great but im missing another “colour”

There are so many options I just dont know which one to marry my two guitars (ES165 and PM120)

I live in small village so no possibilities of trying nothing, I know it would be the ideal situation but this is it.

Im leaning towards a valve amp , maybe a Princeton?

Also there are so many good solid state options ,say quilter for instance.

I do not gig but dont mind the amp has too much watts for my personal use as long as its not super big (in case of a valve amp) and can sound good at low-medium volumes ( Im thinking maybe a vibrolux custom 68 as another option in the 6L6 territory)

    All opinions welcome !!

    Happy wishes

What sounds do you like ? Can you name a few players whose tone you dig and what’s the budget ?

    An eq pedal.

You would be shocked how a simple eq pedal can get you into that familiar fender voicing, especially with the 12 inch polytone.

You can also get your amp MUCH louder by boosting the volume into it.

This is all regarding the classic diamond tolex, no mid control model.

As someone whose primary guitar amp for the last 45 years has been a Polytone MiniBrute (albeit the III, with the 15" speaker) I can state without hesitation that the perfect compliment to those amps would be a Fender Twin Reverb, either blackface or silverface. I owned a 1977 (silverface) Twin prior to getting the Polytone, and I swear I've been missing that sound ever since. There's a big round "thump" to every note's attack that the MiniBrute just cannot accomplish, and every time I've borrowed another Twin or used a backline-provided Twin, I feel like "Ahh... finally, I'm home!"

Why don't I just buy another Twin, you might ask? Because they are heavy AF!

You want something that has a brighter voice capability. As stated like a Fender Camp Clean tone. That usually has less pronounced mids. Lots of possibilities here to consider, but try and get an amp with similar power and size so one doesn’t overwhelm the other.

My suggestion is a used Quilter Aviator 1x8 or 1x12 Combo. Or a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. These amps have effects loops and direct outs for more set up possibilities as well!
