Im comparing these strings which should be very similar. Wondering if anyone has tried them and what they may think. All sets are nickle round wounds, 12-52, I think they are all hex core. By the time I change them Im not sure if Im hearing or imagining differences. They are Labella BJ1252, Rotosound R12 purples,D'Addario EJ21XL.

Im using them on archtops for an "acoustic " sound so looking for volume and brightness. Recently tried Martin Monels and really liked them but not on these guitars. Truth is Im looking for a 15-56 RW sound but my hands cant do it anymore, I have singles of 13 and 56 that I switch in on some and thats what got me going on this the singles are Just Strings which I think are D'Add but I swapped in a Roto and Imagined it sounded better, not sure if I need an Audiologist or a Psychiatrist but thought Id stop here for reality check, Thanks

A possible solution for you is to keep your setup the same (amp, settings, recorder, environment, etc.) and record yourself playing the same thing on the guitar after changing strings. Then you can go back and listen to each recording to hear if there are differences among the string sets.

If you already have all the other gear, then all this will cost you is the price of three sets of strings, and your time.

Labella’s are quite nice but won’t give the sound you’re looking for. Never tried rotos but hated their bass strings.

In a world of already too many options, I have no idea why people would ever buy a daddario string, flats rounds or otherwise. They’re the same price as pyramid…which are absolutely stellar. $5 more in the US, and you can get thomastiks off amazon. Unless you have a nickel allergy, those are the play imo. Dogals are worth it if you do have an allergy but pricey.

labellas are their own thing and have a killer electric sound w great feel tho.

"The most popular string set for jazz guitar is the D’addario ECG24 set with string gauges (thickness) ranging from .011 to 0.50 (closely followed by D’addario ECG25, going from .012 to .052). We also asked our readers how happy they are with their choice of strings, here’s the result for the D’addario ECG24 set:"
