One difference for me: I have an Alexa device hooked up to my pretty decent Marantz stereo system, and subscriptions to a couple streaming services. I can think of any tune and ask the device to play it. "Alexa, play Thelonious Monk, Ruby, My Dear." And out it spills. That level of convenience just can't be beat.

The other side of the coin is that sometimes I want to hear some music, but I just don't know what. So I can flip through my hundreds of LPs and CDs and stumble across something. Maybe something out of print. Something I've forgotten I had. Some bootleg recording. Something that reminds me of a time or place or some long lost friend. Something that brings back a host of memories that Alexa could never unlock.

    That's kind of special too.

On the contrary, after reading so many posts describing what a nuisance it is to possess CDs, I regard my offer as providing a public service. ;-)
