I actually went and looked at this 1935ish epiphone olympic. The owner of the pawn shop was a character. He said the nut was new. I laughed and said it was shot. I tried to tune the guitar and the nut was broke in half and each half would slide right or left depending if I tried tuning a bass or treble string. I mentioned the binding was shot, and the owner went down that cheap and easy fix road. The he said the owner of ederly wanted to buy it. Then complained he was a cheapskate because he paid his luthiers $10-20 an hour and could restore it for next to nothing. Then he said it would be worth $4000. I said I didnt think any of that was true. I then asked if he could ship it if need be and said he would take it to guitar center and have them do it, which was intersting. The neck geometry looked good. I took a picture of that. The pictures in the facebook ad shows about everything else. It did come in a leather bound case that was between poor and fair shape. Anyone want to take a crack at its current value?

It’s an old busted guitar, the new owner is going to have to drop a grand to get it playable. $250.

Thanks. I was guessing a little more, Maybe $400 tops. Talking to the owner, he seemed kind of convinced its worth more I think. Its likely to be there a long time.

Yeah, he sounds like the kind of guy who’d try to add a premium for a broken headstock because the joint is stronger now.

An Olympic is a low line Epi, BUT the fact that Dave Rawlings uses them has made the price skyrocket.
Because of the binding issue the value of this one is somewhere between the old guy's assessment and $250

One day I'll have to Google DR is to see who he is.....

Thats what I found when I searched for that guitar. All roads lead to that dave rawlings guy. He is in videos playing one of those. So thats why the prices seemed out of whack for what it looked and sounded like.

About the owners thinking. I think he said he thought it could be completely restored and refinished for a couple hundred dollars by elderly. They dont do that. You can find as is guitar there all the time that would be much more valuable fixed up.

He’s like, a Nashville Bob Dylan. So there probably is a bubble with these guitars if you’re into that.

Dave Rawlings is awesome. Just his proximity to Gillian Welch makes him awesome.

He's not for me, but you're right, his proximity to Gillian Welch is why I checked him out.

I checked this video of them. She has a good voice. That gibson j45, or whatever it is she plays, looks like it has some serious age to it.

Anyone want to guess the value of this epiphone-screenshot_20250101-180028_firefox-jpg

I like him but I don’t seek him out unless he happens to be on one of her records.

    Shes a genius. Love her.
