Can anyone recommend a good amplifier repair shop or person in the Anaheim/LA/San Diego area who can work on a Yamaha G100-212ii solid state amplifier?

My nephew in Anaheim, CA is having trouble with one of the input jacks. I believe a good servicing is all that is needed. The amp is in great shape with very low mileage.

    Thanks! Joe

So you want an "amp tech," right?

Yes, I am looking for an amp technician or repair shop in Southern California. I've revised my original post to make it clearer. Thanks.

If the input jack is crackling when wiggled and sometimes shorts out, the problem is usually very simple.

The input jack is soldered into the PC board. Over time, mechanical stresses crack the solder. When you wiggle the jack, sometimes the solder connects and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't know for certain that's the case for your amp, but, typically, that's the issue.

The solution is to touch a soldering iron to the places where the jack is soldered to the board. Let the solder liquify and reset. That part of the job couldn't be easier.

The hard part of the job is usually exposing the underside of the board where the solder is. So, you have to take the chassis out of the box and figure out how to expose the solder joints. Sometimes you have to disconnect some connectors, unscrew some screws and turn the board over.

I'm the opposite of a qualified tech, but I've done this several times on a couple of different amps. I was afraid of breaking something (which you might) but it all worked out. Repair cost: zero, but I already owned a soldering iron and a screwdriver.

This guy has a good rep, I emailed him to ask about an amp for sale that had his shop name on it and he answered promptly, even though I was not a potential customer. By the way, I have a Yamaha G100-212-III amp, I've never had a problem with it.
