Bursts do not do it for me at all. I'm mad at bursts lol.

I've heard some comments from the spray booths at Gibson and Heritage over the decades. First, goldtops and silverbursts were for the experienced to manage due to the cost of the paint. Second, tribursts on all and bibursts on expensive guitars were for the experienced due to difficulty. I'm sure there were exceptions, but those were the tendencies at least.
I agree that the coloring should not block wood qualities and rather should spotlight them if possible.
Here are examples of Heritage and Thornton getting it right.

Yes, it was a great sounding one. It probably had T-top pickups at that time period, but they sounded great. Not really sure why I sold it (probably back in the early 2000's) but I did a lot of crazy things back then!

T-tops are one of my favorite pickups in electric archtops. They usually sound awesome.
