In my search to get a thinner Archtop, I stumbled on a local luthier, John Mapson, who makes one.

Is anyone familiar with the Jazz Standard?

It's slightly more than I was planning to spend but I am interested in opinions of it.

The late Mundell Lowe used to play a Mapson, which is a pretty good endorsement. Not sure what model.

You're in Orange County? Cool! Seal Beach native, here.

I'm 99% sure Jim doesn't build anymore, although used models pop up here and there on Reverb.

I agree, Jim is no longer building, I'm 100% sure. I visited his shop around 1999ish. His background was engineering, and his guitar building enterprise was in the back portion of his main business, Mapson Engineering. Located in a faceless business park as I recall in Orange.
He was/is a very precise guy and I placed a order for a Lusso 17" 7 string with a wait time of about 18 months. Foolish me got a little impatient about 8 months later, and during a conversation with Jim he mentioned he had a 15" thinline 7 completed and I could take that instead. I did so, it was a fantastic instrument. But I decided to go back to 6 strings and returned it to him for a full refund. He was truly a gentleman about it.
I think Ron Eschete played one of his builds. And I did get a chance to try Mundell Lowe's guitar, Mundell was a notorious tinkerer and Jim and he were exploring soundposts.
If you see one for sale it's a rare bird!

Pretty sure that's Trevor Owen playing a Mapson.
