Hi, can anyone help identify this guitar, played by Claydes Charles Smith of Kool & The Gang, probably mid-70s. I thought at first it was a semi-hollow, but it seems to be solid-body and short scale. Guild? He played other Guilds throughout his career.

Looks like a variation of a Gibson L-5S.

Thanks - that's the one, hadn't come across that Gibson before and looks to be pretty rare nowadays.

Those are pretty rare, but that's because, due to their solid maple construction and weight, they end up as a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light and other electromagnetic waves, is capable of possessing enough energy to escape it.

In other words - in the OP's picture, we are seeing a sunburst black hole?

Somehow Pat Martino, who was barely bigger than the guitar itself, played one.
