It’s interesting having heard that guitar over those six months, to have a sense of how it is opening up. To my ears, it is warmer and rounder than initially.

I always wonder how much “opening up” is just getting used to the tone of an instrument, maybe adjusting one’s touch to that guitar, versus actual changes in the tonsl response of the instrument.

I’ve wondered the same thing. I’m sure I’ve adapted to the guitar just as much as it has settled in over time.

The attack is different, much smoother decay into a really warm sound, and in dyads and chords, the overall feel is more integrated.
I'll bet it feels easier on the release too. I notice this in breaking in a guitar, it really rewards the fingers in a very tangible way. I also note that left alone a few days, my guitars revert back to a more "green" feel, but after a little while it warms up again.
The older an instrument gets, the faster the daily warm up is and the longer it lasts.
It really does meld with the player.

How's your arm and hands feeling?

    .

There's a bond that forms as both player and instrument adjust to each other. Is it 50/50? 70/30? That’s harder to say but it sure feels like some kind of meeting in the middle. My other guitars have cooled from lack of use, and feel awkward and unsettled now when I try them- but that may be more me then them.

thanks for asking about my hands. I’m definitely feeling the aches and pains of 67 years old, but mostly everything is working. No chops like a 30 year old me, but I’m much better now at working with space

A comparison video from the 1 year point versus when you first got it would be interesting. I hear a difference in your videos which I assume reflects a change in the response of the instrument. It has become rounder and richer sounding than at first.

Well, that’s easy enough to do given my YouTube trail of videos

    Here’s from November 19, 2024:

    Here’s from December 20, 2023

in addition to learning by how to play the thing, the guitar itself maturing and mellowing, I’ve also switched from Pyramid Strings to Stringjoy (both pure nickel .012) and I’ve also changed how I’m recording slight by using more of the amp mike and some DI in the mix versus more of the room/body mike.
