The p/ups look like my Shaws from a '81 L5CES. Looks like someone already monkeyed the covers off to check if they are Shaws!

My Shaws came out of the guitar because I couldn't get a tone that I liked, yeah right!! from an L5 ??? Too much lower mids and a dull voice.

Seth Lovers and new pots woke that guitar up, and now there are spades of useable tones.

    Enjoy that beautiful ES 175.

I absolutely love Shaws in solid body guitars, but am not thrilled with them in archtops, but I also don’t like Seth Lovers in anything. I generally don’t hear it mentioned much, but I think T-tops are fantastic in archtops.

I actually have one of those lying around here that I was thinking about using, how would you characterize the sound?

I have used T-tops in a few Archtops over the years. I think they have a lot of note separation. I like them to bring out the best of a dark guitar. Shaws and 57 Classics are best on brighter guitars.

Neck pickup in my 89 L5 CES pictured. Can't say what specific definition or transition type this is and defer to the more informed in our community on this topic. What I can speak to is that this pickup sounds really good with Thomastik-Infeld JS113 Jazz Swing flatwound strings. And even with the 25 1/2 scale, the .013's feel quite comfortable. Possibly due to the reduced tension TI string design. Like the sound of T Tops in my Les Paul. Like 57 Classics in most everything else. But this pickup and string combination seem perfect in this guitar.

I agree with SS. The T-tops tend to have nice note separation and they have an airy top end that’s not found in every pickup.
