At last, a dream fulfilled! This Gibson L5ces mail-order bride arrived yesterday and I've been introducing her around to the other instruments in my practice area. The other two L5ces copies (Aria and Epiphone) are getting nervous, mumbling to each other wondering which of them will end up having to go to make room for The Princess.

On the other hand, the other members of the Gibson tribe who live here are quite happy to welcome there One and Only True Queen and they are happily sharing the space.

From these pictures, yes, you're right, I have a thing for sunbursts, and I like a little ice-tea or rose tint in my bursts. I think of them as auburn bursts…

For the close-up sale shots, see the listing:

Congratulations!!! The L5 is beautiful, the red in the sunburst is striking - really unique and special.

Why are the most expensive guitars not in proper guitar stands while the copies are?

Actually the ES165 is in a stand of sorts-a clamp that attaches to the bookshelf and holds the guitar around the neck-very secure actually. The L5 is propped very carefully on the chair, that isn't where it "lives!"

    Beautiful sunburst of the L5.
We want a sound comparison between the L5 and its clones, and your impressions about it.

Wow! Spectacular. The L5 just oozes class and opulence. It is gorgeous.
I cant wait to hear it. I can't wait to hear the differences between the Epi-Elitest.
Nothing comes close to an L5. Nothing.

Thanks all for the well-wishes! I hope soon to have a clip posted of the guitar in action, though my playing likely will not (yet) bring out all that it can do.

It's a long story, one involving a price I simply could not refuse. Anyhow, here is a video of the same playing, a solo of Jimmy Raney's based on the changes to "Just Friends." I play the Gibson VOS1959 ES175 (Classic 57 pickups), the Epiphone ES175 Premium (Classic 57s), and then the Herb Ellis (490R in the neck position).

They all sound great! If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the VOS1959 but that would be splitting hairs!
I like the riff in the from 1:10--1:20!

Gorgeous L5. Love the cherry. Long may you play it.

I may want to play an abbreviated game of 20 questions about the Epi Emperor F someday... That's pretty nice in it's own right.

Emperor F? Mine is an Elitist Broadway. Those are, I think, a bit different, though not radically so.

Maybe over on your Emperor T thread?

So here's a clip playing the solo we're learning over on the Robert Conti "Satin Doll" study group. This guitar can make even my playing sound pretty good.
