Alrighty. Let’s get to choosing our next bebop tune to work through. I chose these because they’re short and they’re blueses, or in the case of Scrapple, a contrafact for another tune.

I figure we can take a few weeks to get through one that’s a bit less chunky, and then pick another doozie for the next one.

    My personal vote is Scrapple.

EDIT: let’s axe Straight No Chaser. No votes as of now and it looks like they’re using it in the blues thread this week anyway

Okay Dewey square is maybe my personal favorite but thought maybe it was tiny bit niche? Maybe not?

That would also be another good break tune. Not easy but basically just eight bars.

I'm up for anything. I'm still getting Donna Lee up to tempo, but for the first time in my life I feel like I have it truly memorized and worked out in the way that sits best for me...so that was hugely helpful.

Christian's got me learning Billie's Bounce in the style of Rachmaninov, and since I can only seem to remember one tune at a time, it would be great if we did that one here too. I might even throw in some improv .

I like scrapple. I never learned the B section.

Billie’s Bounce is good too. I can work it in the lower octave since I just have it down in the higher one.

I can't play Billie's Bounce again, I've developed a severe allergy to the tune from being in a group that played it too often.

    Anything else would be nice.

Donna Lee has become a long term project to get it up to tempo, but I'm learning a lot trying.

    I'd be up for Scrapple.

Yeah, that’s why I chose it

Scrapple is more of a basic B jam sesh head. Probs more useful

There is already a Straight No Chaser thread happening right now. So we should probably skip that one at the moment.

Yeah I edited the OP. Couldn’t take it off the poll, but made a note.

I 2nd one of the niche ones Christian chose. I have Scrapple shedded, but I'd be happy to work it further.

There is no B section. Melody-wise.Just Changes.

All depends on what book you look at. Parker plays through the RC bridge on the recording.

Bebop tunes, what’s tune no. 2-img_3970-jpeg

That's his solo over the B section. It's not the set melody. The head is solo for the B section.

PS: What do you see on the 4th bar of the bridge? Him playing a bebop mix scale straight. I'm sure he heard that up. :P

Also pretty sure the first lick in it is wrong. Whoops.

My point is, I’d like to learn that part, and sometimes people play his B solo in the head. No matter what the Hal Leonard Real Book says.

I think Jim Hall plays it, or most of it, in "Live"

It’s a free channel. You can learn the B solo if you like, but there’s no obligation.

True. That bridge is super tough though.
