The Take Five chord lesson on this site How To Play Take 5 Chords On Guitar (Tabs & Audio) shows the first four chords of the bridge as CbMaj7, Abm7, Bbm7, Eb7. I hear the fourth chord as Ebm7 not Eb7. I'm not challenging JGO's choice of chords. I'm just curious as a jazz guitar novice as to what chord others typically use there. I have been playing electric and upright bass most of my adult life. I'm nowhere near being a proficient jazz musician, but I have played some gypsy style swing in an acoustic quartet and the guitarists played the Eb chord as a minor.

Sounds like a m7 to me. Eb7#9 could work.

Isn’t there a Gb Ab A in the melody there? I vote for m7 too.

It seems like Brubeck's original sheet music was edited by his brother Howard. There is a high probability that Howard talked to Dave (and Paul Desmond in this case) about his transcriptions.

According to that the bridge goes

    | Cb / / Abm6 / | Bbm7 / / Ebm7 / | Abm7 / / Db7 / | Gbmaj7 / / / / |

    | Cb / / Abm6 / | Bbm7 / / Ebm7 / | Abm7 / / Db7 / | Fm7 / / Bbm7 / |

Wow, the Eb(7) does sound off
    Think something more like this
    may better support the soloist

    Abm7 Db(9) Gb(69) Gdim
    Abm7 Db(9) Gb(69) Gdim
    Abm7 Db(9) Gb(69) Gdim
    Abm7 Db(9) Bb(#9).....

    This is a non-starter, really.

The RB is Ebm, the 557 book is Ebm, 'Grilles' is Ebm, the original music is Ebm, all the YouTube backing tracks are Ebm, the reliable transcriptions on YouTube say Ebm. The first note of the melody over that chord is Gb which is the 3rd of the minor chord (put it down a semitone, think F for Dm, not F# for D7).

It's Ebm. Eb7 is a mistake, no question. Move on, life is short!

Mind you, rp has a point. Eb7#9 might sound tasty :-)
