Out of curiosity, is that a "Super Vee" or a "Super Five." I have never been sure.

So, "This Vintage Super V BJB model is a custom shop L5C body with a Super 400 neck." is not correct is it, the L5C part, if the body is 3"?
The GJS is 3". I think this, and the fact that it's such an incredible sounding and playing guitar, make a big difference for me from my L5P's 3.3x" depth as far as playing comfort is concerned.
That's a positive to me.

Same rim depth on the Super-V as on an L-5, IIRC.
3 3/8".

Thanks HT!

[QUOTE=Jknit333;1430453]The truss rod cover and pickup are to the best of my knowledge original, I made no changes. Do you have a photograph of what you expected to see?
Thanks.
The truss rod cover is a replacement, should be brass with engraved "Super V' on it. The pickup is original. The tuners are replacement, as well.

[QUOTE=floatingpickup;1430505]That pickup is a Johnny Smith design which is attached to the neck with a metal bracket, rather being attached to the pickguard like a BJB pickup. This means that re-aligning the pickguard won’t affect the pickup’s position at all. The pickguard should be straightened out.
The floating pickup is attached to the pickguard on the original pickguard, UNLIKE an Ibanez George Benson that is mounted to the neck.

I agree that a BJB pickup attaches to the pickguard. BJB pickups also do not have exposed pole pieces. Since this guitar is called a “Super V BJB” I would have expected it would have had a BJB pickup. In the photos, however, it seems to have a pickup with exposed pole pieces that is mounted on the neck like a Johnny Smith pickup (and an Ibanez GB model). I can’t speak to the originality of the guitar, but the pickup in the photos isn’t a BJB pickup. Having said that, I think it looks like a very nice guitar. I actually prefer Johnny Smith pickups to BJB pickups, because of the more secure method of attachment and the ability to adjust string balance.

Not quite, the cutout on the pickguard is too small to fit the pickup. Also, I made a typo on my last comment about the pickup, it is NOT original; HOWEVER, the pickguard IS original, that's why the pickup leaves it off kilter. The frame of the JS that mounts to the neck is pushing the pickguard over because it's not aligning right. It is a beautiful sounding and looking guitar, I have a 79 as well.

Excuse me for a slight derail. I posted a question about a possible BJB a few weeks ago but I've had no replies. Is this a Gibson BJB pickup?. Since then, with gentle persuasion, the bracket has become detached and glue (epoxy or CA) scraped off. When mating the bracket to the pickup it can be clearly seen that it was originally a 'regular' right hand neck unit. I would be grateful for your opinion. Thanks.

Thanks to all that have commented; I have learned a lot of details about this guitar and Gibson!

I've loved hearing the details. It's a lovely guitar, and I'm always interested in history related to Gibson archtops!
Hopefully, it's all good news for you and the guitar.
