I love most of what Bill does but I would say these 3 are my all-time faves:
1. Powertools -Strange Meeting - Heavy power trio w/ bassist Melvin Gibbs and drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson. Absolutely incredible jazzy shronk.
2. Look Out for Hope - Just fantastic. I feel this is when Bill really started getting his writing together. Beautiful.
3. Have a Little Faith - Covers of Sousa, Madonna, Ives, Copeland...Bill makes it work.

My favourite was his work with Pat metheny on the marc Johnson album Sounds of summer running. Also, on broadway vol. 2 with Paul motian was a great album.

No, I love that one too. But I like the follow up -- Further East, Further West -- even better. I think it is available only as a download, maybe only from Bills website. But it smokes!

His work with Paul Motian on Psalm was the first time I'd heard Bill Frisell. His tone and smooth gentle rhythmic sense on the tune Mandeville turned me into an instant fan. It still blows me away when I hear that tune...even after all these years...Wow, 1982
it came out.
