Joe Pass - Satin Doll

I think this might be my favorite live Pass clip of all time. It really shows off a wide variety of his skills and approach and includes his humor, fingerstyle and pick chops, creativity and sly timing in his interaction with the band. Moreover, he's not wearing tux with a bowtie but a comfortable shirt and seems to stretch out and take chances here where perhaps, he plays it a little safe in other solo clips I've seen. Just one guy's opinion.

Brilliant - and playful! But are we happy with the sound coming out of his special ES-175? I find it bright and nasal.

Tone? I'm seldom thrilled with his sound but it's Joe's ideas I'm talkin' about here. The sense of adventure and play is probably because he's in front of an audience of guitar students. A regular audience might not get his shredding joke at the start.
