Out of tune bass on record?

One of my favorite artists has a couple relatively recent album with a bassist who does bowed solos.

The ensemble playing is out of this world, but the bow playing just sounds out of tune to me. It ruins the album for me.

But I know surely this can't be the case, he would never hire someone who plays out of tune, in fact he has perfect pitch.

I wonder why I perceive it this way, any idea? I don't like the timbre of it either maybe it is some kind of bias? lol I dunno.
