Check out this bootleg that Janek Gwizdala broke down. As far as I know this isn't available anywhere else online.

He plays the whole solo uninterrupted at the end, although I find his commentary insightful.

The control of time is really off the charts. Pretty brisk tempo around 170-180, but Rogers doesn't seem phased at all, with nice relaxed, syncopated motivic playing. Then there's of course the blistering highly chromatic double time lines.

Janek has transcribed this whole solo. I've done a fair bit of Rogers, but this one is pretty fearsome haha.

If anyone has any other bootlegs of this band I would love to get a copy. There are a few on YouTube, but I know that there are several others out there that I haven't been able to track down (one at Ronnie Scott's for example.

BreckerFan, Your post tends to evoke a "what the hell can I say to that?!" response.

I think that's the correct response. Sit back and let your face be melted

I would like to learn more about his right hand picking technique, have you seen any videos in which he discusses it?

Yeah those videos are probably where he gives the most detail.

From what I've gather from those and other interviews, he seems to be primarily an economy picker, tho not as committed to the system as like Gambale for example. I've noticed that descending he likes to do 4 nps, with 3 notes picked and a slide. This seems to be driven by his use of Segovia scale patterns which favor slides over fingerings which stretch greater than 4 frets. He's also said fast alternate picking string changes are difficult for him.

Isn't it the band that toured around 2000? I saw them live in Boston, they were amazing. I think i still have the whole concert recorded somewhere, i had a minidisc at the time and was recording a lot of stuff, mainly for transcribing.. Besides Brecker and Rogers, i don't remember who the drummer and organ player were, but i don't think it was Larry Goldings or Clarence Penn yet.. I probably have the musicians written on the disc but i 'm away on vacation..

Interesting, I didn't know there were any other iterations of that band. Bill Stewart was on the record, maybe him? Idk who it could be for organ.

I'd love to hear the recording if possible

I saw the version of this group with Larry Goldings, Larry Grenadier, Idris Muhammed and Adam Rogers. Incredible band.

I still remember the way Adam Rogers was soloing at the gig, his incredible lines, time and general momentum! And Brecker of course! I 'll look for the disc when i get back, hope it still reads!
