Charlie Parker 3 over 4 accents on guitar, example and rudiments + pat martino!
Charlie Parker liked to use accents of 3 over 4, accenting every 3rd note as if it were a triplet. This creates
a great swing sound and is worth integrating into your practice.
One thing he did which I use in this line is to play chromatics between notes of the scale that have a whole
step between them. It's a device that Bird used all the time and it's worth practicing that alone through your
scales.
On guitar if you play the chromatics on one string, you can slur the 2nd note of the 3 note phrase. If you use
Bird's phrasing, you are practically ghosting the in-between note.
Example 1 is a charlie parker style phrase over a 2-5-1 using the technique of 3 over 4 accents.
Example 2 is a diminished scale played with 3 over 4 accents.
Example 3 is an 8 note phrase played with 3 over 4 accents
Example 4 is a pat martino style line demonstrating one way he used 3 over 4 accents.
I hope you enjoy it. It's worth adding this to your repertoire...
