I didn't know it was a thing on here until afterward. I wasn't planning on continuing -- looking back, I guess I didn't care for the voicing of the last chord on the track, so I made my own resolution.

Been trying today...its tough. Maybe I need to pick a shitty tune, all the good ones have guide tones in the melody, and if I'm playing few notes at high tempo and want you to hear the changes I'm nailing those guide tones

"Boredom" by the Buzzcocks has one of the best guitar solos of all time. Almost just two notes...a third sneaks in at the end.

One of my all time favorite guitar solos ...

The band is called Viva Brasil. I recommend, in particular, an album called Festa.
They were very popular locally some years back

I saw them long after their initial popularity. I was a fan of their albums, and looking forward hearing their guitarist, a great player named Jeff Buenz, take a solo.

They were switching off instruments and for the early part of the show, Jeff was playing bass (he's great at that too).

Finally, he switched to guitar, they started playing, and it was time for Jeff to solo.

Jeff has great chops and is a great soloist.

This time, though, he took a cuica solo - on the guitar. The cuica is a strange Brazilian instrument that looks like a small cylindrical drum, has a stick inside attached the skin (for pitch change) and is played, somehow, to sound like a harbor seal singing along with a tune you don't know.

So, Jeff slid up and down a single string, imitating that seal barking thing.

I was disappointed, but just for a moment.

Aside - did you know that on Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side' the famous bass line intro by Herbie Flowers is actually two tracks? It's octaves. Notalottapeopleknowthat.

I read somewhere that it was an acoustic bass doing that slide. Was it two?

The short answer to the machine question is yes. I'm using an ME80 to generate an octave down.

But, I'm going to give a longer answer, in case it's helpful or just to bring up the issue.

One of the most helpful practice sessions I ever spent was an afternoon where I decided to work on sound. I had the ME50 at the time and started fiddling around with it to find a sound that might work with the lines I think of. I kept thinking that the sound had to be thicker. I tried various preamp, EQ, distortion and delay combinations. I tried two amps with stereo chorus. Just kept fiddling and eventually arrived at the sound you heard. And, btw, the guitar was the Yamaha Pacifica 012, their cheapest model, although with a Lil 59 in the neck position.

Thanks. It was an overdub, he played both parts. But not octaves, apparently. It stops when the voice comes in. This tells it all and is interesting anyway.

Yes, I met him. He ran the Fez club, I think, and put jazz shows on. But he was always doing something.
