That's good to know. I contacted them, also, and asked if we could use one of Conti's complimentary lessons (on Vimeo) to start with while some of us wait for the DVDs to arrive. Based on what you found out, that accommodation might not be necessary.

All the Pass transcriptions I've got are written on staves (staffs? ). Not tabs.

I'm looking forward to the study group!

That's a good track, for sure. It's a little faster than the one that comes with the DVD, but more like the tempo I usually hear "Satin Doll" played at. I usually use the one from the Learn Jazz Standards site, although here's another one I like, because it's played at 3 different speeds.

One of his last public performances. I've learned a bit of the solo from the booklet. I think it's also in the "Genius of Joe Pass" book.

You can also invest in a small mixer (under $50 at musiciansfriend.com) and run the track and guitar through that. Then plug the output into the audio in of your laptop. A little setup and it'll go right onto the video.
It all comes down to how much fidelity you are going to demand of yourself.
Have fun

I think making one's videos private is what prevents them from showing up here.

Stuff like this could change the world. I can see why The Powers That Be be have contended against me, but I will not be thwarted . . .

And never doubt that we got your back. ;o)

First post to see if I can get the blocking and tackling right... More practice needed to get all 32 bars...

Well played! Nice camera angle too.

Let me start a thread for "Satin Doll." (This is the study group thread and it is "stuck" but we will need a separate thread for each solo, the first being "Satin Doll."
Feel free to add this there too.

Thanks for doing this, Mark!

I have the book "Jazz Lines" on my shelf. I have dying to crack it open. Maybe a study group based on that book is in our future?

Thanks! Video-wise, that's about all you're gonna get out of me. I don't care what other people's videos look like, and I don't care how mine look, either. If I can hear the notes, that's good enough.

No worries. Some people don't understand simple lighting. Some people don't care. Its not music. It's easy to fix if you want to.
I will say that I've learned a lot of stuff from videos by LOOKING, so you may change your mind if that matters to you. Moving on....
