Recently i watched a clip of John McLaughlin playing his Johnny Smith. I’m aware that in his hands the guitar may look small as he probably is tall guy. However it made me curious of actual measurements, also because after buying a Mark Campellone Special which is supposed to be Gibson Johnny Smith sized i noticed that my GJS is noticably larger than the MCSpecial.
So i’d like to ask GJS owners, please measure your guitar and let me know! TIA
Measuring my own 76 blonde GJS i came to the following results:
Overall length is 42.05 in. ( 106.8 cm)
Width at lower bout 17 in. (43.2 cm.)
Width at upper bout 12.6 in (32 cm)
Body length (measured from neck joint) 51.5 cm
Neck length (measured from neck joint to end of peghead) 55.3 cm
Depth, measured at side of rim 3.15 in. (8 cm)
Scale length 25 in. (635 mm.).
Width of nut 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.)

I’ve never seen any significantly measurable dimensional differences in any GJS, and that spans 1960s-1980s examples.

In the Lin Flanagan book on Johnny Smith it is stated that Smith was aware that Gibson never tooled up correctly for the GJS guitar and therefore there were inconsistencies, particularly in the necks. In response to JS complaints Gibson sent Wilbur Marker to re-measure the neck of Smith's own guitar. The chronology of this is not clear and Smith's blonde GJS was actually a Citation with changes.
