Hello there, recently played a '66 ES-175. I loved the slim, pencil neck on it. Are there other hollowbodies that you know of with the same neck size, shape?
I haven’t played your 175, but my Heritage 575 has a narrow, fast neck that reminds me of a Japanese GB10 I owned some time ago. AFAIK the Heritage guitars had all kinds of variations in the past, there are probably more narrow necked 575s around.
I had a Samick HF 650 that had a very thin neck. IIRC, the nut was 1 5/8" rather than the 1-9/16" of the skinniest '60s Gibsons, but the overall neck profile was about the same.
Nice 175 !
Have been lucky enough to own a 66 Tal Farlow with this kind of neck in 25.5 scale.
Fantastic sound whatever amp used !
This is a digitized slide with poor color rendering : the Viceroy Brown was lighter, more chocolate brown.
Many Guilds from the late '50s and early '60s had 1-5/8" necks.
Oddly enough, my '55 ES-175D has a 1-5/8" nut and a fairly slim depth, which was atypical for the era. Moral of the story is, in that era there were no absolutes, only general trends. Judge each individual instrument on its own merit.
Wow just the opposite for me. I really like the late1950’s Gibson larger necks with the 1&11/16” width. I find these later 1965 necks way too cramped for my hands.
Dave, what are the JS 113s that you keep mentioning? I don't know what the JS stands for. I did follow Ron Eschete's example and try a 70 Boomer GHS roundwound and it's a whole new world. Instead of...
Dave, hi again. You mentioned in your message a recording where you compared a Blu to the Superblock. But the clip in your post only has the Superblock. Is that other recording still available? Is...
Dave, just saw this. Wow what a nice guitar. I bought one on eBay about 10 years ago, same finish as yours. And then two years ago I bought a natural one from Lou. The first one had an inset...
Not sure how many forum members use plugins for practicing or with DAW recordings, but those who do may be interested. Neural DPS is having a 50% sale on plugins for another 9 days. I bought the...
They usually have nice 3-color sunburst. I considered that model years ago but then I read something about the neck of early ’60s ES-175s and gave up the idea.
But was it something about them...
Very interesting post scgim. My question is who is buying tickets to see that sham.I remember last year there was a Yardbirds tour which only had the drummer from the original band.Better off and...
I usually give the ends of the wrapped strings a squeeze with the flat inside of a long nose pliers. They will fit the Gibson finger tail piece. You won’t have a easy time finding a different nickel...
I haven’t played the benson strings in years but I recall they’re like swings with higher tension (thicker gauges). I have mostly come to dislike flatwound strings but I recently tried dogal...
If i understand you correctly, you want a flatwound string like the Bensons that feel the same without the silk wrap.If this is the case then i don't think you will find a comparable one you like i'm...
I had a set of TI Benson 12's. They were the best set of strings I ever owned. Took about a month to break in, after that they kept their tone and tension for three years. (Sold the guitar.) The only...
