Hi friends, a while back I purchased a SKB-20 case for mine - which was tight but worked….until I mounted the controls

Are any of you guys using TKL cases for Triumphs that have controls mounted on the PG? Tricky to find a case with enough width and depth and apparently any ole ‘jumbo’ case won’t work.

    Thanks in advance!

in Epiphone's quest to one up Gibson archtops their guitars are frequently 3/8-1/2" wider which can make for a tight or too loose fit in todays standardized case sizes.

Too loose would be awesome. I could always add some padding. I’ve got the controls mounted in a weird area near the rim which is making it more difficult than it should be. I’d rather have a case that’s too deep that I could add some padding to on the lid on either side of the tail piece to optimize….

you might want to look into their 18" wide case though I'm not sure if they're any deeper than the 17's

Thank you - That’s encouraging! Couldn’t find much info on the TKL site and I’d rather find something used to save dough.

Those guys have a less-than-arm's-length relationship with Boblen in Montreal, who make these cases for TKL. Their pricing is really good, and new or used S-400 cases are not widely available, nor are they cheap. I have a few, but I'm not selling them for any less than this one. Unless you are close to or in a major urban area where you might find one without the need for shipping (which will be $$), I'd grab it.

    I have a pile of
jumbo archtop TKL "Montreal" cases and have found that there are variations in the case depth and height of the arch of the case lid. Some work for old Epiphone archtops and some do not. My experience is that their S-400 cases always work for old Epiphone archtops.

that one seems to be gone and I’m still trying to get some Intel on the depth at the side.

I noticed some Benedetto guitars have the controls mounted near the rim. Maybe find out what he uses.

Wonder if a J200 case might be the best bet….hmmmm

The TKL arched-top cases for the Gibson J-200 are the same as the TKL 17" arched-top cases for 17" Gibson archtop guitars.

weird…here’s the specs I’ve found on that one, albeit probably not TKL:

Gibson SJ-200 Jumbo Modern Hardshell Case Specifications

    • Length: 45.00”
    • Upper Body Width: 14.38”
    • Lower Body Width: 18.75”
    • Depth: 5.88”

The Triumph seems to fit in every 17”guitar case I’ve tried at any rate (bout size)….I’m thinking a uniformly deeper flattop case that I can add padding to and lock the guitar in place might be the best thing. Gibson did something similar with my 90’s Legrand case…which would work well if it wasn’t for the shorter body.
