I've been getting into Archtop guitars lately, so I decided to test the waters. I've been playing Falt tops for nearly 20 years.I figured it was time to try something new. The brand is Marz, and there is basically no information on this company. It is well constructed and sounds great with excellent playability.

From the limited info I have found, this has a solid Carpathian Spruce top and solid flamed Maple back and sides. 16 inch bout. Does anyone have any more info on these? I am looking forward to learning more about the world of Archtops.

As I recall, Marz 16” archtops were made in California by a former Eastman luthier about 12-15 years ago and are very nice instruments. I’ve never seen one live. I think there were only about a dozen made, some acoustic and some with pickups.

This is the information I was able to gather as well. Thank you for confirming!

It’s my belief these were built in China. Much the way the Raines archtop’s were. Back in the day you could order archtop’s from China and have your name stamped on them, if you ordered in bulk, which both these guys would.

As you can see, here’s a Marz that sold for $800 on Reverb, which would have been the going price at the time. Reportedly built by Eastman. But I’m not too certain about that.

Looks a whole lot like my 2007 Eastman Pisano 880, except for the f-holes. Headstock and tailpiece almost identical, but without John's frog inlay. All maple box, 3 piece lam neck, nitro finish. Even the back figure and colour is very similar. The box is 2 3/4 deep on the 880 and top is X braced. Wood body binding.

I would expect this to sound and play a whole lot like my guitar, which I love dearly. Looks like a keeper to me!

You're right. It is almost identical to your Pisano. Thanks!
