I think that's a good idea. I couldn't imagine using the dark setting... IDK anything about Quilter amps (like in the demo), but even with my PRRI the dark setting was too dark, even with the tone control cranked.

hey there - i'd be curious if anyone has recorded any video (or just audio) demos w/ the JJ-150? I've inquired about ordering but would love to hear more.

Sounds awesome. You decided not to use the chicken-head knobs?

Here's my rig - I have experimented a lot with the delay, but not the tube pre - I use that to mic a flattop.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but any chance anyone else has any words on this pedal? I’m really torn which way to go. I have the opportunity to get this or the original Jr Barnyard with boost. Thanks!

Well, I really like mine as shown in the 2 threads above.
In fact, I think I'll go play it right now.

unfortunatey with this pedal they haven’t gotten the “marketing” backing of the other one. There’s only one, maybe two videos, and they are not very helpful. There’s dozens of videos of the Barnyard showing what the knobs and switches do and how they affect the tone. I’m pretty iffy on buying something when it’s legitimately based on written things about circuitry.

That's an awesome rig. Is it a RE 12, or 12ER?

Oh, and I painted the grill after an old Magnatone amp.

I'm bringing this thread back up because I just got a JJ150.
Initial thoughts:
It does what I was looking for - an "old" sounding overdrive tone, that doesn't get too fizzy in the treble frequencies, but starts making the lower frequencies "woolly" first, when you turn up the gain; rather "soft" response, not too spikey/aggressive - exactly what I was looking for; that's actually pretty unique, I've tried a lot of low gain OD pedals, and very few can do that.
Way more gain available than I expected - I'm keeping the gain pot around 9-10 o' clock, beyond the noon position you're starting to get into Neil Young - Tweed Deluxe shortly before blowing up - territory.
The bright switch has to stay "on" for me, too dark otherwise. - but then, I don't play jazz, but a bit of Western swing, 1940s country, early rockabilly.
One thing that does NOT work: I was hoping to be able to use the second footswitch ("mic channel") as a kind of solo boost - but the increase in volume is way too big for that; would be better if there was a knob to set the extra volume, or at least a smaller jump.
I couldn't help myself to look inside and see whether there's a trim pot for setting that extra volume level - but all I can see are two trimmers for biasing the JFETs, and while I don't know a lot about circuit design, I do know that JFET biasing has a big influence on tone & breakup character of an overdrive, so I'm wary to mess with that. Unfortunately, you only see the back of the circuit, I'd have to dismantle it to see whether there's a trim-pot at the other side...
So, in summary - yes, I like what it does - but functionality could be increased a bit by allowing the user to set the extra volume of the mic channel.Last edited by RomanS; 02-06-2025 at 07:40 PM.
