Have been researching or trying to find easy portable, good sounding headphone amps and just starting using things I already have in my collection of “stuff “..

I’m running Tech21 flyrig cali into my relatively inexpensive headphone guitar amp I got on amazon that has Bluetooth capability ..the sansamp relative improves and amplified the sound of the clean tone as well as a little reverb and now I can also use amazing slow downer app and and metronome functions from my phone via Bluetooth...not bad and gives a relatively good fender sound!

I'm thinking about the Yamaha THR for such purpose, let's you also connect your phone/computer for backing tracks / drumgenius and is super small. I'd prefer the Yamaha THR5 but this one doesn't have the "flat / acoustic / bass" amps which seem to be working best for jazz

This is still the most convenient headphone amp solution for traveling for me:

In my experience, the iPhone-based solutions are terrible.

Best by far from what I've tried is the Phil Jones Big Head. Now comes the part where folks complain about the $250 price, but I'm telling you...for a no-nonsense, great sounding, bulletproof device that just does what you want and doesn't have any distracting features (like receiving text messages), this thing is awesome.

I use the iRig HD 2 into an iPad. The iRigs that plug into the phone jack can be noisy.

I thought about this as a potential solution as well but have read mixed reviews about the quality of the headphone jack so wasn’t sure if it was worth it just as a headphone amp.

I’m still playing with this. I found when using amplitude I couldn’t use other apps like Amazing slow downer at the same time but didn’t try GarageBand yet.

I use AUM as a mixer/plug-in host. Bias Amp/FX are what I use most. Anytune Pro has a slow downer function.

Interesting. I actually have a Focusrite itrack dock for an iPad but my version is the iPad mini2.. it’s super old now and pretty full memory wise which is partly why I haven’t used it in a while as I can’t upload much onto it or update GarageBand cause of the memory. Maybe it’s just time to clear some apps on it and try it again but the flyrig is a simple headphone solution that just works and doesn’t involve sorting and relearning all the quirks of the apps which is nice.

I never heard of it before, thanks for the info! The reviews look great but yes unfortunately I’m not there yet as far as spending that much on a headphone amp when I have other options..who knows, when I get frustrated enough maybe I will ! It’d be nice to have Bluetooth and a little reverb on such an expensive practice amp but understand this isn’t what they focused on with this product.
