It arrived today
You know we all have these dream amps we want, but most of the time you can't find them.
One of my dreams was a Deluxe Reverb type amp but with the Fender 3 knob reverb, like the separate box Fender made... I belong to a Dumble Amp, Clone, Pedal group on Facebook and recently a guy was raving about Michael Whitney's Dumble style amps. I head over to the Spindrift Music store website to see Michael's stuff and BANG, there's my dream amp, the TremorVerb 24. Basically a Deluxe style amp with a 3 knob parallel reverb. It's got a hi and low output input jack so with 6V6's can run 24 or 40 watts... Wharehouse Veteran 30 speaker. So I talked to Michael about the amp I wanted and ordered it. He's sending me update emails (like Ms Lora does). Today he got the transformers, tomorrow the chassis arrives, he's already ordered the Mojotone cabinet how I wanted it and by the time he gets it part way built the cabinet will arrive. He says it'll be ready in 4-5 weeks, maybe a little sooner... Here's a link. When I get photos of it's progess I'll share them.

everything you wanted to know Fender Vibro-King 20th Anniversary Amp Review
cheers

Cool looking amp, Big. I know you'll enjoy it.
The now defunct Heritage Amplification of Tennessee had a series of amps designed by Paul Cochrane, with two knob reverb circuits. Pure Fendery goodness from 22 to 45 watts.

I'll be v. interested to read your review when you get it. Spec sounds good. I had a fairly early Vibroking which I loved, but the weight was a killer - skyhooks essential.

Cool amp!

(you can't do that with a hi and lo input... those just have different impedance resulting in less or more signal being fed to the first preamp stage)
*EDIT: I checked the product page, it says: "The TremorVerb is a point-to-point amp that can either be powered by a duet of 6v6 or 5881 tubes giving you either roughly 24 or 40 watts of respective power". So you have to change the output tubes indeed for a different output.

Well aside from the 3 knob reverb I wanted a relatively low power amp. As much as I brownnose my elderly upstairs neighbor (who is as hard of hearing as I am) I do have to be considerate of the fact I live in a senior condominium - not the little farm house I used to be in in Jersey... Yes Mike did try to steer me to the 5881 tube version for more clean headroom. Chances are this amp will never have the volume set above 3 in this place...

6V6 tubes do sound a little different and if you never need the clean headroom then 6V6’s are a nice choice indeed!

Mike sent me this photo today. He really gets on a job once you order... He said "these parts will soon be your amplifier" he's already got the Mercury Magnetics transformers.

Woo-hoo, Big! Looks like a very cool amp. Very much looking forward to your in-hand thoughts. And I'm sure your neighbor appreciates that you are a gentleman - a bit of a rarity it seems, these days. Represent!

Mike was on vacation visiting his parents, he's back now and hit the bench hard. Here's builder approved for distribution shots of it and what the finished example will look like... Oh Boy !!

I resemble that remark. My first tube amp was a Heritage Patriot, bought from the Heritage forum...those were the daze!

Mike sent me an email and shareable photo of "the board drilled, staked and swaged". Today a pic of him "matching resistors in critical circuits"

Wiring progress photos went classified a while ago, but she’s almost done. Just waiting on Mojotone to deliver the cabinet.

Big Mike,
That's going to be a real winner. Deluxe Reverb power amp, 6G15 Fender Reverb Unit reverb, Bassman Tone Stack, and Fender Vibrato (Tremelo). Who could ask for anything more?
All in a DR cabinet. Whoo-wee!

Mike says this ones cool to share

Look great!
Power tubes bias voltage I guess?
I like the courier-style font he uses for the lettering!

burn in test means it’s on for an extended period of time to see if any little caps and such will fail. Mike is former navy sub guy, very with it. Later Friday I got an Emil with this poor photo, a couple components didn’t last long. That’s the pupise of the burn in.

Hey Big~That's a mighty elegant and heavy duty looking reverb bag.

Well it left Groton on Monday and UPS just got here. It's cold as (you add your own expletive filled comment) and the amp is ICE cold. Like any good arch top I'm gonna let her rest all night warming up in the office. She sure is pretty. About the size of a Deluxe Reverb. Can't wait to try her out but I'm gonna give those little bottles all night to acclimate. Ain't she pretty ???? More on the tone. Gonna use the HJS and the Unity ES5 and that '2002 GB10 I got from Jesse in the Netherlands as my test bed drivers...

Very good looking amp, Big Mike.

This guy Mike Whitney (likes being called Whit) started out as an electrical engineer, joined the Navy where he became a nuclear engineer and after he retired from the Navy opened a shop called Spindrift Guitars near his old Naval Station. He runs the store, teaches amp building classes and builds amp. The entire way this guy is drop dead serious like only an old sub guy could be. It's gonna be real fun taking this out for a drive...

Sweet looking amp, Big! Dig the amp stand as well. That's one very classy looking rig. I bet it will sound every bit as good as it looks. Congratulations, and play it in good health!

Once a Swabby always a Swabby! Congrats on another fine amp BM!
