Wow on the Gibson! I've tried both TI Flats and Rounds on my DS-250 and it likes both, but I prefer the .014 set on TI Bebop rounds as I'm going for a more "vintage" sound--but my style is much different than yours-- more Blues and Swing (wish I could do what you do!). Congrats again on your new baby!

Thanks for the tips. 014 is a little bit too much for me (never went above 013), but BeBop rounds from TI is definitly something to try.

In a threadsurrection, 1st, nice work on your sweet DS. And I was wondering if the Paris shop was the one on the Pigalle, forget the owner's name just now...

No, she shop where I tried this ES 250 in located in the Louvre/Rivoli Paris quarter. It is exactly located in the "gallerie Véro-Dodat". A fine place to visit, typically Art Déco 1920's. The owner is François Charle, a nice guy.

François Charle, instruments de musique a cordes, guitare, banjo, mandoline, ukulele, lap steel, vente, achat, depot

The shop you're mentioning near to Pigalle must be "Vintage Guitars". One of the nicest place for vintage in Europe. The owner is Hertz Mairon. A good pal!

Yes, Hertz, c'est vrai. A nice guy who said he spoke no Anglais when asked until I mentioned a mutual friend and he burst out in perfect English...8 ")

This is not the '250' you played, correct?

Lovely sound, clarity, and playing, and that quilted maple is gorgeous.

That's one incredibly good sounding guitar. The tone on that is exactly what I've been trying to get.

Nope. That one is a L7 that was converted into an ES 250. I've tried it already and she hasn't made a lasting impression to me. The acoustic sound was dead.

Ha yes...Hertz is fluent in English. I think he followed the Berklee college of music in his youth.

    Happy guitar hunting !

Can't agree more. She is strugglin for the award of the "best sounding guitar" amongst my set of archtops. These two videos were done immediately after acquisition of this DS 250. I've done another video 6 months later and the sound had tremendoulous improved already. This 3rd video is here:

Fred, fabulous playing as usual! Is the pickup a Biltoft CC? And if yes is your pickguard shielded with copper like the pickguard with the same CC pickup on your L5C?

And if copper is blanketing the underside pick guard, is that in fact done for shielding, as to attempt to reduce feedback? Sorry for all the questions but I'm about to install my first Biltoft CC on a very deep 18" acoustic archtop. Your assistance is most appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    Hi 2b,

No, the pickup is from CC pickup UK. That's what Daniel Slaman is currently using for his commemorative CC series. And the pickguard is not shielded, maybe because it's already done inside the pickup.

AFAIK, pickguard shielding has not effect on feedback. It is used to reduce background noise due to electrostratic interferences when you put your hand onto the pickguard. And yes, if you have such issues, it is very efficient to remove this type of background noise.

    Hope this helps.

    Best to you.

    Hi Fred!

I couldn't find the thread where you posted photos of the underside of the pickguard covered in copper but if memory serves me correctly it was from this guitar, which you play this lovely original of yours with a Biltoft CC?

    Hi 2b,

Yes, that's the L5C equipped with Pete Blltoft CC PU, and yes, it has been shielded underneath by my guitar tech.

Here we go again with the pics.

You have the best sound I've heard from a CC Slaman guitar. Can I ask what amp you're using. It sounds lovely, though of course your playing helps too!

All these video with CC Slaman have been recorded with my Fender Super Sonic, 60W, bassman channel. Ultimately I've switched to a Fender Deluxe Reverb. From my viewpoint it sounds even better now.

    Cheers.
