#barmagnetsmatter - The traditional mounting is completely unnecessary if you don't have those big bar magnets. I'm still pulling for you to find a UK CC Pickup in good shape from a reliable vendor. You could also try archtop.com: Fine Vintage Instruments Online

Depends on what you want/need. For my needs, the Biltoft HCC works perfect and as such is "right.

of course, i meant "right" as per vintage spec…i certainly wouldnt go through all the trouble of a 3 screw mount otherwise!

Have the Lollar CC pickup...installed three years ago on my Tele....love it! One of my favorite go to guitars for jazz. I believe the impedance on the PU is about 3.4 ohms or so....very low output. I would not buy the so called "matching" bridge PU ...that one is not so good IMHO.

it might be 3, 400 ohms or so, but the lollar pickup has comparable output to a PAF. Low resistance, but high inductance.

I would hope that the screws on the Lollar and Vintage Vibe guitars are in the exact right spot. For me there is mileage in having the screws right so if I got my hands on one with the original design I could at least A/B them to see which I prefer. The three screws is important to me also as I'm trying to make my guitar look completely 30's spec.

P.S. I saw an example of someone playing a Vintage Vibe HCC. Sounded great:

Also it might be worth considering that I don't think Colin of CC pickups actually makes the pickups himself and outsources the work to someone else. I could be wrong, but I remember reading on a forum a while back some guy saying he made the pickups for Colin. I've been racking my brain to try and figure out where I saw that.

A local hipster music store, the kind filled with obscure and exotic guitars rather than proper vintage guitars, had two different guitars with Lollar CC pickups. Both were some kind of plywood student model from the 50's - like a Kay. The first thing I noticed is that the dimensions looked slightly off - like when Fender had to try replicate their headstock in 1982, but didn't get it quite right. I'd be concerned that it might not be a direct drop-in dimension-wise for a real one. The UK-made ones do look to me to be a direct drop in - and that's based on me comparing my spare UK-made one with the original in my '37 ES-150.

Hey everyone. Just an update on the pickup situation. After two months of no contact from Colin, he got in touch with me to say a couple of things. One - that he had been moving house and tied up with that and not able to correspond... But two - that the pickup was going to be sent that day. That is very promising news. Hopefully it arrives safe and sound and is put together well.

That someone is our forum member Jack Zucker. He has a number of YouTube clips with samples of different guitars' sounds.

The HCC in the clip has a humbucker mount. That's very convenient from a practical point of view. Almost any PU type can be had in humbucker mount, so future experimentation with other PUs is easy. Height adjustments are done in a few seconds with a screwdriver. I know you are going for the original CC three point mount, but the humbucker mount HCC is what I have in two guitars (among them a Painter P-350 like in the clip, though with specs a little different). If the HCC in this guitar is like Tom Painter preferred them, it likely has ceramic magnets, but I prefer the HCC with the weaker Alnico II magnets for a mellower sound (it is ordered with magnets of the users choice).

With the original CC PUs from the 1930's it worth noting that the magnets have weakened somewhat through the years so those old PUs don't sound as punchy today as they did when they were new 75-80 years ago.

That's great news, long may Colin's enterprise continue. Those are amazing pickups.

On a related note, back in Feb 2013, I was in touch with Pete Biltoft regarding a custom mount CC Rider pickup. He can make one with the traditional 3 point mounting, and he sent me a very nice pic of an example (which, unfortunately I'm unable to post here). At that time 2/2013 he was quoting a price of $185 USD, which seems very reasonable.

    p-
see page 1..apparently pete b makes the 3 point mount but it's not true to the original…the pup is the same as a non 3 pt mount, with magnet below bobbin, but fixed to a 3 point mounting apparatus

happy to hear cc pickups uk is up and going

    cheers
