Scharpach does have a Youtube channel. There is a short video where you get to hear this specific guitar

What brand of string use that bright blue silk wrapping?

Back on topic- that is a truly gorgeous guitar. Not a fan of the slotted headstock and the hardware is a tad gaudy for my taste. Certainly costs a few coppers!

I find it a most beautiful instrument. The overall design has an elegance and the hardware, while ornate, stops far short of gaudy. I think such detail lavished on the metalwork bespeaks a fully justified pride in the piece itself - superb wood selection and execution, flowing, exquisitely proportioned lines, a stunning finish. I wouldn't take it to a bar, but I would (in an alternate universe where I was fortunate enough to own it) play it as much as I could and record with it at every opportunity. MHO.

I can't help but think, "so much of an homage to the violin, and you don't do a wooden tailpiece? Really?"

It's gorgeous though, and, as much as one can judget from the sound clip, sounds great.

But I got it used for $2500.

I also got an Epi ES175 as a retirement gift from my children. We're not quite high enough in the classes to be able to afford anything like the instruments being discussed in this thread, nevermind a Porsche or anything else in that class.
That Benedetto is sweet .... and that Epi was a great gift from your kids ...

You can make a lot of great music with those guitars

Very well put! Reflects my thoughts exactly. Vienna Apex - the most beautiful archtop I've ever seen!

It would be a dream come true for me to hear one in person.

The Vienna OPUS is supposed to be one notch "below" the APEX in the product line. Here's a video of Stefan Beyer playing a Vienna OPUS.

Though the OPUS is equipped with a floating pickup, this is a fully acoustic recording, per the video description.

Nelson Faria on an Opus. Log into Facebook | Facebook agree with the title of the thread. I'd argue that one could easily form a bond with the guitar - perhaps to a greater extent or quicker than with an comparatively inexpensive ES..? I speak only for myself, but I could see myself respecting such an incredible piece of art on aesthetic alone- more tedious maintainance and upkeep, a gentler and more intimate touch, and making "more" out of the practice in general. With such a fine instrument, I'd think that one would have a more... ritualistic approach, perhaps? My dearest bottom-of-the-range ES hangs on a tri-stand with its lesser peers. A clip-on tuner has become a permanent part of its outfit, as has a colorful floral strap. I make no effort to maintain its lacquer, as it came from the factory with what could be most generously described as a sub-par finish. I have very little respect for what little effort went into crafting this guitar. The list of finish and quality issues is a long one. Some of the Mother of Toilet Seat inlays have straightened out and started popping out, there was a complete lack of finish between the lower bout and the cutaway, which meant that my jeans have severely discolored the binding, there's orange peeling on the entire headstock, and the list goes on. A Scharpach guitar, on the other hand, might inspire me to be pedantically tedious about keeping it "perfect", and the ritualistic approach to practicing might make the guitar an extension more than a tool. ...I think.

I am not convinced that is $40,000 worth of tone.

OPUS shouldn't be that expensive. That'd be the APEX.
